Priory Farm - a Farm Shop to set the taste buds tingling!

At La Barbe, we are always keen to support like-minded local businesses, especially those that share our passion for good food.

When you visit, allow a little extra time for a trip to the Plant Centre – this year they are selling a range of patio vegetable planters so you can enjoy the satisfaction – and flavour – of growing your own food. They also grow tomatoes to sell in the Farm Shop – probably the freshest you’ll ever buy.

Priory Farm is on Sandy Lane in South Nutfield.

Message from Le Patron

serge tassi - le patronAnother spring and another challenging and exciting few months ahead of us

As you will read we have linked up with a number of local businesses where synergy can develop to spread the “La Barbe” message and this will expand during the year. The Everest challenge was a reminder that my body is not one of a teenager but it is something I will never forget – especially three weeks as a vegetarian (as supplied by the sherpas).

For those of you who are regular visitors to Reigate the proliferation of coffee shops cannot have missed your notice – I think there are now at least ten of one sort or another with one more being planned – who is drinking all this coffee?

Rising rents, apart from all the other financial pressures are making life tough in the High Street and I only hope that the town can retain its character and selection of “nonmultiple” shops, which add to its appeal. If anyone would like a very worn pair of climbing boots – call me! (Or maybe I should auction them on E-Bay!)

Serge Reaches His Highest Success

Le Patron, Serge Tassi, is coming down to earth from his most daunting charity challenge yet

He was part of a 44 strong UK team which raised some £80,000 for the British Heart Foundation via an ascent to Everest base Camp, a soaring 5000 metre climb. The challenge covered ten days from start to the target, with accompanying sherpas, horses and yaks. “The most gruelling stage was the last one - to our target” said Serge. “It was also very, very cold despite the sunshine”. With a warm bed and a shower to look forward to, the caravan then set back. “Not without its dangers”, recalled Serge. “We have had rock falls to contend with and the yaks show little respect for others as they pick their best route down!” There were three casualties, one of which required a helicopter rescue.

“Without doubt”, said a very fit Serge, “that was the toughest charity challenge I have yet attempted – even tougher than cycling across the Andes”.

Le Patron has some ideas for the future, but for the time being Madame Tassi would rather see a little more of him!

Grant Rogers talks to Chef de Cuisine, Laurent Pacaud.

“The trouble with these Celebrity Chefs is that they spend more time preparing themselves than preparing the food!”

Boeuf up Sunday lunch!

In France, Sunday lunch is something of a ritual, as generations catch up on the week's news over a leisurely meal.

It is therefore a natural development for La Barbe to open its doors on a Sunday and offer a warm French welcome – and of course our wonderful cuisine. Our new special Sunday menu includes our regular à la carte with single course flexibility and, naturally, children are very welcome!
